Brandon & Camilla’s Surprise Proposal Photos - Japanese Garden, Regent’s Park
Brandon & Camilla’s engagement was nothing short of young, tender love.
He contacted me months in advance to make sure everything was planned out perfectly. He and Camilla were visiting London in the summer and he wanted to propose to her amongst the beautiful greens of Regent’s Park.
The minute he chose this location, I knew the exact spot to capture it. The picturesque bridge in the Japanese Garden seemed like the perfect depiction for Brandon & Camilla’s storybook type of love.
When the day finally arrived, I waited and watched Brandon escort Camilla towards the bridge. They spent a few moments leaning over the railing and talking about the garden. But when Brandon began holding Camilla’s hand and moving her towards the center of the bridge, she knew what was happening. This was the moment. She immediately burst into tears, the most joyful kind. It was such a sweet moment to witness, for me and also all the other visitors in the garden. It truly deserved the applause it got.
The first thing Camilla told me after she was proposed to was that she didn’t know how to pose for pictures and that I would need to tell her when to smile and where to put her hands. What I told her was that the key to documentary photography is that you don’t need to force anything. You just be who you are. Each movement and reaction, to your partner and your environment, is what makes it your story.
That’s the beauty of capturing things as they are; it allows you to look back on that memory and reminisce all the genuine feelings that you had in that moment.
